CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts
CCA Wattis Institute for Contemporary Arts is a nonprofit exhibition venue and research institute dedicated to contemporary art and ideas. The Wattis supports artists who take risks and experiment with new ideas, and it provides a public forum to established, emerging, and under-recognized artists who challenge our ways of understanding the art of our current moment.
All proceeds for the sale of editions and publications go directly toward the support of the Wattis exhibitions, programs and research. The Wattis has produced editions and publications by notable artists such as Laura Owens, David Hammons, Andrea Fraser, Joan Jonas, Josephine Pryde and many more.
COLPA PRESS
COLPA is the collaborative art practice of Luca Antonucci and David Kasprzak, who work together as publishers, designers, printers and curators. COLPA PRESS publishes art books, limited edition prints and art objects, often working with artists on unique projects. In 2016, COLPA founded the SF Art Book Fair, and in addition, their namesake store COLPA BOOKS & VIDEO features new and used books.
onestar press/ Three Star Books
Founded in 2007 by Christophe Boutin and Mélanie Scarciglia, Three Star Books produces books and editions with a loose interpretation of the "Artist's book" as the final product, in many cases, exceeding the physical and conceptual parameters of publishing.
onestar press is dedicated to the production of books and multiples by artists, and includes more than 300 books, 300 multiples and artists’ films since 2000. The space and freedom given to artists, the flexibility in the realization of their concepts, the access to and use of new technologies have allowed onestar press to collaborate with international artists on a variety of projects.
Owl Cave Books
Owl Cave Books is a San Francisco-based independent artist-run bookseller and publisher specializing in international contemporary art, theory, culture, and politics. Established by artist and bookseller Viniita 'Vee' Moran in London in 2008, Owl Cave Books began with an invitation from artist Marvin Gaye Chetwynd for Vee to lecture, perform, and run a small feminist and gender theory book swap during one of Chetwynd’s multi-night performance extravaganzas at the Royal Academy of Arts. Owl Cave Books publishes works on paper, participates in international book fairs and exhibitions, and offers a selection of books and editions online. They also regularly collaborate with other artists, publishers, galleries, and institutions on print projects, exhibitions, and events.

Permanent Collection
California-native, London based curators Mariah Nielson and Fanny Singer created Permanent Collection: a line of luxury clothing, accessories and objects based on historical and contemporary originals. Inspired by the principles that guide acquisitions at the world’s greatest museums, Permanent Collection offers pieces defined by timeless value, whose currency as art and design will endure.
Permanent Collection also publishes Works on Paper, an art and design journal which features texts by writers, artists, critics and curators including Hilton Als, Negar Azimi, Thessaly La Force, Anicka Yi, Laura McLean-Ferris among others.
RE/SEARCH
In 1977 V. Vale founded Search & Destroy, San Francisco’s first Punk Rock publication. It was published at City Lights Bookstore, where V. Vale worked, and was funded by $100 each from Lawrence Ferlinghetti and Allen Ginsberg. In 1980, V. Vale launched RE/SEARCH, releasing books by Jello Biafra, Henry Rollins, Lydia Lunch, and many other Punk notables. RE/SEARCH is highly regarded for its impact on the world of underground culture.
RE/SEARCH introduced artists such as William S. Burroughs, J.G. Ballard, Genesis P- Orridge, SPK, Monte Cazazza, and many others. RE/SEARCH has continued to remain vital in its lengthy history by refusing to adhere to a formula for an easily identifiable “Punk Culture.” Aside from being a book/magazine publisher it is also a mail-order company selling its own wares, which include underground T-shirts, books, DVDs, music, and other merchandise.
Rite Editions
Steven Leiber and Robin Wright founded RITE Editions in 2007 in San Francisco with the intent of commissioning artists to make limited edition publications. A variety of mediums are explored in RITE Editions publications, and notably all editions are intimate, interactive and necessitate close examination.
Since its inception, RITE Editions has published 15 editions, beginning with the inaugural edition Sound of Music, A Record of the Sound of Its Own Making by Jonathan Monk – an LP recording referencing Robert Morris’s Box with the Sound of Its Own Making (1961). Subsequent multiples include The White Album by Mungo Thomson (2009), Travis Meinolf’s Social Fabric Berlin Mitte (2010), and Paul Sietsema’s At the hour of tea (2014). This year, three editions will be completed: Jay Heikes’s Music for Minor Planets, a special edition by Gabriel Sierra, and a RITE Edition book publication.
The third edition of Untitled Art, San Francisco will take place at Pier 35, 1454 The Embarcadero on January 18 – 20, 2019.
