Nike, Collin Kaepernick, Serena Williams and Racism

The World went crazy when Nike released their AD with Collin Kaepernick. After all the things that has been taking place in the world why would a sneaker AD be your biggest issue. There are people without Health Insurance, schools being shot up by another student. Depression issues within many communities, President Trump scandals with his and his staffers all over the news, Genocide in Africa, gentrification within many neighborhoods; not to mention the cost of living going up while wages to cover those cost aren't; however it is clear that is not as much of an issue as an AD with a football player that took a knee during the national anthem. Racism is still an issue and many try to kick it under the rug. This AD that Nike has done with Kaepernick has resonate deep with many. Many started to cut the Nike sign off of their clothing that they have already purchased and post it on social media sites others were burning the products. Some burned the products while wearing it.

If voters did not understand how deep racism goes within this country from Trump was elected for office, well this Nike AD make it clear as day. There is no blurred lines at this point there is only a clear picture in color not black and white. Donald Tump tax on tarrifs issues are not going away right now. It has put us at a distance with Canada as they have not come to an agreement on anything as yet. The fact that he is still in office says a lot about this country and their ability to lead with out discrimination. President Trump decided to use the NFL to make an example out of players who wanted to kneel during the national anthem. If you take a knee you are dishonoring your country. Yet he and many others in politics does not respect the veterans who fight and give their lives for this country in order to keep the people safe. To them they are just boots on the ground, a number in a messed up system and if they make it out alive as veterans the respect is not given, because what they do here is more important than putting your life on the line for your country. Yet kneeling during the national anthem is disrespectful to everyone.

The lack of care for the human race is disrespectful, hey but who is there to say different? Blacks believe if they don't vote their votes will not matter. If you do not understand the problem you can not solve the problem. Think about it as a math problem placed in front of you. If W+W= R then B+B=?. For many this one will be complicated because of what they already know. Now Louisiana has joined the racist fight by banning Nike products from recreational use. What's next for the industry giant Nike after this? Jim Carey has been no stranger to the issues within this country, he has not shy away from any topic he feels is unjust to people within this country. In his recent interview in real time with Bill Maher talked about his Nike he just bought because of the racism that is taking place within this country. To antagonize the many who are outraged that Nike would do this, Nike has always been inclusive with blacks in their AD campaign but they are more inclusive now than before. After Serena Williams mom Catsuit was banned from Tennis they "wanted to bring class back to the game." While as unprecedented as this may have been it was not the first time a catsuit was worn to a tennis match up. Anne White wore an all White catsuit in 1985 to her Tennis match up. Catsuits were not banned then however they are banned now. Serena Williams who is also apart of the new Nike AD/campaign speaks about her discrimination that she faces in her industry.
