Chuck Hagel Defense Secretary Resigning

With less than two years beneath his belt Chuck Hagel is resigning, He was the only republican on President Obama's team. Hagel claimed he was tired of being pushed around and told what to do, after three visits with president Obama and not being asked to stay he thought it was clear not to continue to push the issue and keep himself where he clearly was not wanted.

Hagel seeming as if he was the right man for the job after his years he spent in the arm and the experience he has gained. Now feels like maybe he was not wanted there or accepted. It is said that he did not believed in sending more troops in to Iraq because of the man power that it would cost us. He wanted to actually try to bring more troops home. His resignation was not what he wanted but what he had to do. It is said that he approached president Obama over a week ago about him stepping down and the president did oblige to his request. Then President Obama was said to make an announcement Monday from the state dining room with Hagel and Vise President Biden by his side.

"Chuck Hagel has been an extraordinary secretary of defense, "Mr.Obama said. "as the first enlisted combat veteran to serve in that position, he understands our men and women in uniform like few others... He sees himself in them, and they see themselves in him."

"CBS received information from a senior defense official, he told National Security Correspondent David Martin the resignation is a "mutual decision" between Hagel and Mr. Obama. Hagel will be in the office until they find a replacement."

Hagel took the job as the Defense Department was entering a "period of transition" and President Obama took that in mind with him entering the position. That included the drawdown in Afghanistan, new budgetary restrictions, and a revamping of the military to build a more flexible fighting force. A lot was changing, many new things were being implemented and he decided to take on this roll and stand with President Obama because he believed in the cause and everything that President Obama was trying to do.
