Death of Political Activist Nadine Gordimer
Political activist Nadine Gordimer died Monday, July 14th' at the age of 90. She was mourned by south Africa, one of South Africa's literary Giants and supporter of freedom. Through Ms. Gordimer's work, international readers learned the human effects of the "color bar". She received the 1991 Noble Peace prize in literature, not only was she a South African writer, Ms Gordimer was also a political activist. She believed that her hard work would not of had as much impact as it did is she was anywhere else.
Born in a middle class home in Britain daughter to a jewish watch maker, she started writing at the age of 9. Gordimer produced 15 novels as well as several volumes of short stories non-fiction and other works, her work was also published in over 30 different languages around the world. She was adamant on equality and freedom so becoming part of the rally for South Africa was her way of fighting back. Never seeing herself as an activist she discovered her passion and her calling doing something that was unexpected. Helping to make changes to the life of the people in South Africa.
